We are here to make it easier for you to reach the archaeological and heritage sites in Al-Diwaniyah Governorate.
Our goal is to ensure that visitors—especially those who have never been to Iraq before—experience a comfortable and smooth journey while traveling to and exploring these locations.
Below, you will find a brief guide explaining how to reach the sites we have highlighted.
When you arrive at Baghdad International Airport or any other airport in Iraq, you will find many taxis waiting outside. These taxis operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
You can take one of these taxis and arrange a direct trip to Al-Diwaniyah city, which usually costs around $100, depending on the driver. Alternatively, you may ask the taxi driver to take you to the Southern Bus Terminal (Al-Karaj Al-Janoubi) in Baghdad. From there, you can take a shared taxi to Al-Diwaniyah, which typically costs between $10 and $15.
Once you arrive in Al-Diwaniyah Governorate, it is important to keep in mind that some archaeological sites are difficult to reach, as they are located in remote desert areas. Most taxi drivers are not familiar with the exact locations of these sites. Usually, only staff of the Iraqi State Board of Antiquities and Heritage and the Antiquities Police know how to reach them. Therefore, it is recommended to contact the following number to help arrange safe and smooth access to the mentioned sites:
