An Iraqi–German project that documents and explores cultural heritage in southern Iraq, with a special focus on the safeguarding of the archaeological heritage. Through images, videos, and bilingual content (Arabic/English), it brings archaeological sites to life and reconnects local communities with their past.
Heritage is everywhere, and everywhere it is threatened: Crumbling mudbrick villages, a dimishing number of reed guest houses, thousands of archaeological tell sites. But who knows about their value for humankind? Where and how can I visit them?
Since 2016, our collaborative project has documented the cultural heritage in the Al-Qadisiyah governorate in the districts Afak, Al'Bdair and Sumer through extensive surveys.
By sharing the results in an accessible way and promoting awareness, the project highlights the importance of safeguarding cultural heritage—not only as part of Iraq’s identity, but as a legacy of global significance.
